What is Roots of Jazz?
Currently in its sixteenth year, Roots of Jazz is a 60-minute assembly designed to teach students about the origins of jazz music. Musician and music educator, Frank Leto, backed by a jazz quartet, keeps audiences wide-eyed with lively demonstrations of music from Africa, Cuba, Brazil and the United States. The music is neatly woven into a fabric of historical narrative, highlighting the cultural blending that has made jazz such a uniquely American art form.
How do students experience Roots of Jazz?
A limited number of free assemblies are scheduled throughout the academic year, on a first-come first-served basis, with priority being given to Title 1 schools. Assemblies are scheduled on Friday Mornings, September 2011 through May 2012.
Although we have served almost all elementary schools in the Albuquerque area, over the course of sixteen years, we would like to encourage schools that have never seen the presentation to give it a try. Contact Debbie to register your school for Roots of Jazz!
