NMJW Community Big Band

June 6 -– August 15
10 weeks: Members/APS - $110 General-$125 Class culminates in a concert.
This ten-week class provides the thrill of successfully negotiating big band arrangements. Class time focuses on developing and refining a varied repertoire of jazz arrangements. A recital will be presented to provide a showcase for the band’s accomplishments. The possibility of other performance opportunities is open to exploration. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis until all chairs are full.

Christian Pincock is a trombonist with experience in many styles of music. Coming from a foundation in jazz, he has performed in a diverse range of situations including big bands, jazz combos, symphonies, brass quintets, marching bands, dixieland bands, funk bands, variety bands, ranchero, kirtan, rock, avante-garde jazz, experimental, electro-acoustic, and has collaborated in projects involving actors, dancers, and visual artist. Christian has experience as a composer, arranger, and copyist. In addition to his own works for big band and jazz quintet, he has written arrangements for the Manhattan School of Music Big Band and Trombone choir, the Joe Battaglia Big Band, and The New England Conservatory Jazz Composers Big Band. |

June 10 –- August 5
8 weeks: Members/APS - $115 General--$130 (+ $20 lab fee for accompanists) Class culminates in a concert.
This class offers a fun, supportive environment for students to “strut their stuff”. Topics covered will include mic technique, performance tips, and the way to really “sell a song”. The class culminates in a recital where we will put you on the stage and have you looking and sounding great!
Patty Stephens made her stage debut at the age of three. By the age of fourteen she was performing in musical theatre for audiences in Denver, Colo. Teaching drama in Cuernavaca, Mexico when she was eighteen was the beginning of her professional career as actress, singer and costume designer. Patty moved to Albuquerque in 1985 pursuing jazz. Since then she has been performing in clubs, theatres and churches. She teaches private and group lessons in her studio and holds a workshop she developed called "Singing As A Martial Art".
Latin Jazz & Improvisation (all levels welcome)

8 weeks: Members/APS - $95General--$110 Class culminates in a concert.
A combo class covering improv skills and Latin jazz styles. Come and explore the exciting rhythms of Latin Jazz while honing your improvisational skills. Students learn theory applicable for all types of jazz playing (Latin and straight ahead) while concentrating on the rhythms that make Latin music so unique.
Originally from Guatemala, Rodolfo Gonzalez flutist/arranger/composer has lived in New Mexico since 1991. Rodolfo has been Music director for the salsa bands Casa Blanca and Charanga del Valle as well as the Latin jazz groups, Terra Plena and Transit Latin Jazz Ensemble.
Modern Jazz Ensemble (all levels welcome) Instructor: Lewis Winn

8 weeks: Members/APS- $95 General-$110 Class culminates in a concert.
Modern: New, fresh, recently developed/reinterpreted/updated. Jazz: Improvisation, swing, hot, cool, spontaneously interactive composition. Ensemble: Band, group, combo, outfit, collection. Modern Jazz Ensemble: Creative people making music together.
Guitarist/Bassist Lewis Winn has performed professionally for over 30 years. In addition to his 30 years of private instruction, he has been an adjunct faculty member at the College of Santa Fe since 1994. In recent years, Lewis has been a featured artist with Max Roach, Eddie Harris, and Richie Cole, among others. Currently he is the leader/arranger for the group “The Alpha Cats”.
Real Book Jam (all levels welcome)

Come and jam with local singers and musicians in a fun and supportive environment. Practice new tunes, soloing, and whatever else you want to try out.
