Jazz Camp is a premier fine arts day camp designed to activate and inspire the creative minds of children ages 6 to 12. Each morning children concentrate on the musical skills of rhythm, melody, and harmony. Elective classes in dance, theater and visual arts provide alternate activities that round out each afternoon. In the spirit of Jazz music, Jazz Camp encourages improvisation and individual expression while establishing a structure of cooperation and mutual respect. No previous musical experience is required.
Instructors are professional artists who have also distinguished themselves as inspiring educators. Instruments needed for classes are provided, however students may choose to use their own instruments when appropriate.
The 2010 Jazz Camp will be held at Alvarado Elementary School, 1100 Solar Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM, 87107. The Hours of Jazz Camp are 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. (Jazz Camp is not responsible for children on the school grounds BEFORE 8:45 a.m. or AFTER 3:00 p.m. Summer Recreation provides before and after camp care on-site at Alvarado ES.
